Ad and I visited the MWL store yesterday. I wanted to pick up some self-inking stamps, but when I got there, I found that they hadn't been launched yet. So, for the first time, I visited the store and came out with nothing!
Well, maybe not nothing. Somehow, Ad got really inspired while at the store. In the middle of our tea there (yes, we shared a terribly sinful cupcake), all of a sudden he turned to me and said he wanted to go home and scrap! I thought, "Okaaaaay," a bit skeptical that he would actually get down to business. You see, I've observed, on many occasions, that Ad gets really motivated to scrap at the store. Maybe it's all the paper and tools you get to see at the store. So, most times he buys a lot of paper, but the sheets just stay in my paper tray and never get used.
Until yesterday. This is the result of hours of hunny's hard work, and I must say, I'm really very impressed.
Ad's got a natural sense of colour. He instinctively knows which colours look good together - and he's got this uncanny knack for picking out great patterned paper. The funny thing about him is that his sense of colour coordination doesn't quite extend to his clothing. Haha.
Anyway, in case you think I was slacking while Ad was toiling away, here's what I made:
It's a box made of chipboard. Maya Road makes these fabulous projects kits that you can buy and do whatever you want with them. I covered this box with paper and added some ribbon and plasticky, semi-translucent flowers. I like the flowers. They can spin around like little windmills.
Inside the box are cards (originally just pieces of cardboard) strung together on a ball chain - so the box actually is a mini-album of sorts.
Check out the "pages"... yes, sister dear, this project is for you!
I covered the cards on both sides to maximise the number of photos this little album could hold.
For this project, I used mainly papers and stickers from Love, Elsie. These are so, so gorgeous - I'm so tempted to make an online order for the entire collection. I think they are my favourite at the moment (previously was Scenic Route papers - also very quaint and quirky). Another product which I experimented with in this project was Ranger's Sepia Accents - a 3-dimensional adhesive with a sepia colouring. Very cool. I love this product.
I'll be uploading more detailed shots of the pages into my Flickr scrap album, but not just yet. I'm still a bit tired from all that effort last night, so I just need to sleep sleep sleep today.
It took hours, but I really enjoyed making this mini-album. I think my scrapping supplies have hit "critical mass" - meaning that I now have enough supplies at home to have a certain measure of creative freedom. Sometimes, it's hard to scrap when you just don't have enough stuff - you get limited by what you have. What contributed most, however, to the "success" of this project (and I don't just mean the product, I mean the journey), is the fact that I was scrapping for someone I love. Like I told Ad, if you don't like the subject, your scrapwork just isn't going to be nice.
So, little sister, I love you.
